Car Brief: Hyundai HCD9 Talus Concept

A peek at the future of Hyundai Think Hyundai is all about small sedans and SUVs and with great warranties? If so, it's time to change your perception, because the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit was home to two exciting debuts, the redesigned and sleek 2007 Santa Fe, and the Hyundai HCD9 Talus concept car, an aggressively-styled four-door coupe that President and CEO, Bob Cosmai, suggests hints at the brand's future design strategy.
The highlight of the day was the Santa Fe, but there are a few interesting details to share pertaining to the Talus. Underneath the bold styling is an optional four-wheel-drive system and works with generous ground clearance to a driver and three passengers off the beaten path. Well, theoretically at least, since this concept is probably worth millions and won't even be home to a fleck of dust. Too bad, considering how much fun it would be to dip into the 4.6-liter V8 under the hood. Other features found on the Talus are meaty 22-inch wheels and tires, front fog lights, dual exhaust tips, a retractable LCD monitor in the front console, a clock displaying the time for three different time zones, and rear DVD monitors with their own dedicated audio controls. Sierra Brown and Black Chestnut leather covers the interior, which fits well with the metallic accents found throughout. As an added bonus, Hyundai engineers have outfitted the Talus with a night vision system, wireless internet access, a shift-by-wire six-speed automatic transmission, and electronic stability control.

Well the scenic route has come to an end and you put your foot on the trusty accelerator to power your way more quickly the ten miles that you remain from home. But your trust in the workings that usually engage when you press your foot down is betrayed. When you stomp, your car bucks and twists like a ride at the coun ...
